SEO Content Writing in Northampton

Good SEO content answers the question someone typed, in their language, better than the other pages on the results page. That takes research first and writing second.

Who it is for

Content is usually the biggest gap on small-business websites in Northamptonshire. We write for trades and home services, professional firms, clinics, online shops, B2B suppliers and manufacturers. Some clients want us to write everything; others want a plan and briefs their own team can follow. Both work.

What we write

Type of pagePurposeTypical length
Service pagesRank for commercial searches and convert visitors800 to 1,500 words
Location pagesWin searches in specific towns you serve600 to 1,000 words
Guides and articlesAnswer research questions and earn links1,200 to 2,000 words
Category copyHelp ecommerce categories rank200 to 600 words
Product descriptionsReplace manufacturer copy with unique detail100 to 300 words

Lengths are a guide, not a target. Some questions need 400 words; some need 2,000. We write as much as the topic deserves.

How we research and write each page

1Search intent. We study the current search results for the target phrase: which pages rank, what format they take and what questions they answer.

2Terms and entities. We use content tools such as PageOptimizer Pro to identify the terms and topics that strong pages cover, then check them against common sense.

3Brief. Each page gets a short brief: audience, intent, outline, key points, internal links and calls to action.

4Expert input. For anything specialist we interview you or your team. A Northampton engineering firm explaining tolerances, or a care provider explaining funding, knows things no writer can invent.

5Writing. Plain UK English, short paragraphs, clear headings, real examples.

6Editing and fact-checking. Every claim is checked. Local facts are verified, not assumed.

7On-page optimisation. Title tag, meta description, headings, internal links, image alt text and structured data.

8Review and publish. You approve every page before it goes live. We can upload it for you.

Our writing standards

We avoid the stock phrases that make web copy sound machine-made, and we avoid padding. If your service has a price range, a typical timescale or a known drawback, we say so, because that is what readers want to know. If a page needs a table or a checklist, it gets one.

Refreshing what you already have

Often the quickest gains come from improving pages that already rank on page two. We find these in Search Console, compare them against the pages above them, and rework them rather than writing new content for its own sake. It also avoids the common problem of several thin pages competing for the same search.

How long it takes

A typical service page takes about a week from brief to draft, including your review. New pages usually start to appear in search within a few weeks of publishing, and settle into their positions over two to four months.

What drives the cost

  • The number of pages and their length
  • How specialist the subject is and how much interviewing is needed
  • Whether we also handle uploading, images and internal linking
  • Whether pages are new or refreshes of existing ones

Common mistakes

  • Writing about what the business wants to say rather than what customers search for
  • Copying the structure of the top result without adding anything new
  • Location pages with the town name swapped and nothing else
  • Blogs about company news that nobody searches for
  • Publishing content and never updating it

How we measure it

For each page we track impressions, rankings, clicks and conversions in Search Console and analytics, and report which pages are bringing enquiries. Pages that underperform after a few months are reviewed and improved.

What the first month looks like

In the first month we agree goals, review your existing pages in Search Console, research the searches that matter most and produce a content plan for the next three months. The plan lists each page, its target search, its purpose and its priority. We usually start with the pages closest to bringing in enquiries, such as service pages that rank on page two, before writing new guides.

Working with your team

Some clients have people who know the subject well but lack time to write. In that case a twenty-minute call per page is often enough: we ask the questions a customer would ask, record the answers and turn them into a draft for you to check. It keeps the expertise genuine and the time cost low.

Content for different stages of buying

A useful content plan covers more than one type of searcher. Someone searching "what does a commercial EPC involve" is still learning; someone searching "commercial EPC assessor Northampton" is ready to hire. Both searches are worth winning, but they need different pages. We map content to these stages so the site helps people at each point and links them on naturally to the page where they can get in touch.

Content works best with solid technical SEO underneath and link building to give it authority. For B2B firms we combine it with B2B SEO. Kettering businesses with a heritage story often get good value from guide content; see our Kettering page and our article on what Northampton's shoemakers can teach us about SEO.

Frequently asked questions

Do you use AI to write content?

We may use software for research and outlines, but every page is written, edited and fact-checked by a person, and specialist points come from you.

Who owns the content?

You do, once it is paid for.

How many blog posts should I publish each month?

There is no magic number. Two well-researched pieces a month usually beat eight thin ones.

Can you write in our brand voice?

Yes. We review your existing material and agree a short style guide before writing.

Do you upload the content?

We can upload to most platforms, including WordPress and Shopify, or hand over finished copy.
